Our names are Nura Mehammed and Seid Yosuf and we are reaching out with urgency and hope in our hearts. Our family, Jemal, Halima, their two kids, Mahdi and Menayir, as well as Adel and Abdulahi, who have been displaced by ongoing conflict in Sudan, are in desperate need of support — and this moment may be their chance at a new life.

On April 30, 2025, Canada is opening a special pathway to resettle approximately 350 Sudanese refugees through private sponsorship by Groups of Five and Community Sponsors. Our hope is to first bring our family with children through this pathway, then apply for refugee sponsorship for the remaining adults. After seeking other pathways of sponsorship, this is our final hope - but we have only one week to meet the financial sponsorship requirement to be eligible to apply.

Our family was already seeking refuge in Khartoum, Sudan when violence erupted in Khartoum on April 15, 2023. Since then, their lives have been upended again and were forced to flee to Uganda. They are living in unsafe and unstable conditions in a refugee camp — unable to work legally despite being highly educated, send the children to school, or afford rising rent prices. Every day is a struggle for survival.

We are asking for your help to raise the funds necessary to sponsor them through this temporary pathway. Your contribution will directly help cover their resettlement costs and give them the chance to live in safety, access education, and rebuild their future with dignity. Jemal and his families life potential is threatened, while there is a strong community that is able and willing to support them here in Saskatoon - we just need your help to get them here.

Meet our niece and nephew whose lives have been turned upside down. Forced to flee their home, they are now facing unimaginable hardship—without access to school, proper nutrition, or safety.

Mahdi just turned 15. He’s bright, kind, and full of energy, with a love for math and soccer. He should be in a classroom, or out on a school field with his friends—but instead, his dreams are on hold.

His 6-year-old sister, Menayir, is imaginative and full of joy. She loves to play dress-up and carefully paints her dolls’ faces with her mother’s lipstick. She loves to laugh and we adore how her eyes light up when she smiles.

Right now, Mahdi and Menayir can’t attend school or access the nutrition and stability every child needs. But their potential is still there—waiting.

With your help, we can give them a chance to dream again

We, Nura Mehammed and Seid Yosuf, are privately sponsoring our extended family who are currently refugees in Uganda. We are both residents of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and have lived experience as refugees. We understand firsthand how critical timely support can be.

We are organizing this fundraiser to help bring our refugee family to safety in Saskatoon. Every dollar raised will be saved in a special account set up just for this purpose — to meet the financial support requirements of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) through the Group of Five sponsorship pathway.

These funds will be used to support the family during their first year in Canada — including rent, groceries, healthcare, school supplies, and other basic needs.

We are hopeful and prepared for a successful application. If for any reason we are not successful this time, we will keep the funds in this account and try again. This money will only be used for refugee sponsorship.

Our current goal is to raise $30,000 — the amount that has supported previous successful sponsorships. Thank you for being part of this journey.
