Good evening! My name is Mekhai Ryan, a senior at the illustrious University of Central Florida, majoring in Psychology, and I am honored to be Contestant #4 in the UCF's chapter of SISTUHS, Inc. Man of Substance Pageant. This pageant is more than a competition for me—it's an opportunity to make a real difference in my community and to represent a cause that is deeply personal.
When I'm crowned Man of Substance, I plan to use my scholarship towards my tuition, helping me continue my education and pursue my dreams. My platform for this pageant focuses on intervening with the degrading mental health of young Black men. My plan is to address troubled childhoods and upbringings, combat systemic barriers, and provide mentorship to these young men as they grow into the men they're destined to become. This mission is important for me to highlight because I was once in their shoes and viewed seeking help as 'weak' or 'not masculine.' It is imperative that this narrative is broken and no longer adopted by the next generations of Black youth.
Preparing for the pageant comes with significant expenses, including entry fees and clothing costs. Your support will help me cover these essential needs, allowing me to focus on my platform and studies. Thank you in advance for your consideration and donation—every contribution is appreciated and brings me closer to making my vision a reality. If you would like to support, the link will be in my bio.
