Our whole family loves hiking. This Summer, we had the opportunity to visit one of the most beautiful places on the planet: Meili Snow Mountain, the most sacred mountain in Tibetan Buddhism. Our 9-year-old daughter and 12-year-old son hiked 12 miles with us in 6 hours from 7,000 feet and passed a 12,000 feet ridge into a remote village called Yubeng. We hiked another 16 miles out from Ninong Gorge in 7 hours the other day. Yubeng village sits on the bottom of Meili Snow Mountain and can only be accessed by foot. There are about 20 native Tibetan households. Around the village, you see animals roaming around you, glacier reflections in the creek and rainbow above the clouds. Everything was surreal! It was worth every step of the long journey. The untouched beauty deeply impressed us.
While rich in natural resources, this remote area is one of the poorest in China and lacks basic necessities like roads, clean water and waste removal services. Tourism brings much-needed revenue to the community, but without proper planning and infrastructure, it also has the potential to destroy the pristine landscape and natural beauty that draws people there. Although the area is approved to be a National Park, the existing waste must be removed and an ongoing process for waste removal and safe disposal must be developed.
That is why we want to raise money to donate to The Nature Conservancy, the leading institute in the world in protecting our environment. TNC has listed Meili Snow Mountain as one of its most important projects in China. Please see the link for more information

Early this November, our whole family is going to hike the Grand Canyon Rim to Rim in ONE DAY. The total distance will be 24 miles with 6000 feet descending to the bottom of the Canyon from the North Rim and climbing 4500 feet to the South Rim. Please consider donating to support the TNC Meili project.
Thank you!
