Y'all!!! I made it to the official Adaptive CrossFit Games 2025!!!! And this time as a single point of contact athlete! This has been SO much fun to learn and challenge myself in new ways. I have really enjoyed this journey.
I will be one of 3 Americans competing in the division. It is in Las Vegas, Sept 12-14.
I have competed at Wodapalooza in 2022, WheelWod in 2021 and 2022 but I have always done two point of contact (using both arms).
I have Erbs Palsy in my right arm which is basically a severed brachial nerve from birth. (I was an over #10 bay-bee!) I don't have control over my right bicep and can't rotate my hand palm up (supination).
While my parents tried to raise me to be "normal" and use both arms, my right arm has always been weaker and with a limited range of motion. It didn't stop me from playing goalie in hockey (but I did have a weak stick side), snowboarding in Colorado, consistently playing JV only soccer in HS (yes, you can play JV all 4 years!), riding my motorcycle and embracing people staring at me all day as an educator.
I found CrossFit and the amazing community surrounding it in 2017. While I was embarrassed by my weak side, I made friends and felt comfortable trying my best in the smaller groups. In 2020, I saw a documentary on adaptive CrossFit and it blew my mind!!!! I immediately set my sights on WZA without even knowing about the WheelWod organization.
This has hand-down been the greatest blessing in my life. What started as a mortifying disability as a kid, has opened an entire community to me that I didn't even know existed. I am so incredibly blessed to be involved in the Adaptive community and to be able to participate one last time before retiring!
We are doing a T-shirt fundraiser at my gym to help raise funds but a number of people have asked about just straight donating. This always makes me feel a little weird but any help is appreciated! This is a very costly event and not something I was planning on doing this year! (I just started training 1 point in Feb of this year)
Thank you thank you thank you for all of the support, good vibes, encouragement, and kind words. If 10 year old Meg could see *cough year old Meg now ... Smh. I am so blessed. I would never want a "normal arm" after all of this. Thank you!!!
