As many of you know, I have had the privilege and honor of caring for many children.  Christian and Maribel are particularly special to me, as they are 1st cousins of my daughter, Valeria.  Christian (now 7) and Maribel (now 3)lived with me for almost 2 years from 2012-2014.  In August of 2014, I had the opportunity to reconnect them with their father, Israel, in Oaxaca, Mexico.  When I flew to Mexico to bring the children, I was filled with mixed emotions.  I knew that being with their family was most important, despite the poverty they would be living in.  I vowed then to help this family forever.  Each year I plan to take a trip to visit and check on the progress.  This year I was able to send donations from my Dad to Mexico to alleviate some of the burden of survival. 

My goal over the longterm is to assist with the following:

Flooring for home (currently dirt floors)
Upgrade roofing
Install indoor plumbing (currently use outhouse)
Assist their block to install plumbing (they have started the process, but we can help!)
Support Israel continuing his education so he can earn a liveable wage. (he currently works long hours as a cab driver, making poverty wages)

The good news is the American Dollar goes far in Mexico.  We CAN truly impact this family and then the larger community.  Once these goals are accomplished I hope to help to upgrade the local elementary school where Christian and Maribel attend.
