Meghan Wert - Young Rider World Championship
Donation protected
My name is Meghan Wert and I am a 14-year-old young rider from Spring Mills, PA. I am one of 3 young riders that has qualified for the USA Young Rider Endurance Team (under 21). In September we will be traveling to Ermelo, Netherlands to compete in the Federation Equestre Internationale (FEI) Young Riders Endurance World Championships.
Endurance riding is similar to Ultramarathons just on horseback. My partner (Dude Free Gold) and I will compete in a one day 75-mile race. Along the way there are four vet check points where we present Dude to the vets for inspection to make sure he is fit to continue the race. Including a final vet check at the end of the race. This vet check also determines whether I finish or not.
I started riding at eight years old. I was introduced to endurance at ten years old and I loved it. I started riding endurance on my Arabian Cross mare and now I have a young Arabian mare who I am just starting endurance with. I am also involved in 4h for my county and I am the president of my club.
For the Endurance World Championships, I will be riding Dude who is owned by Valerie Kanavy. Valerie has been involved with endurance riding her whole life in many different levels. I started riding with Valerie and her team last fall. Valerie has graciously allowed me to compete with Dude. He is an awesome horse and I hope to do great things with him at the World Championships.
Dude and I, along with our crew and team members will spend two weeks in Netherlands. My expected out of pocket expenses will be $35,000, this includes flying Dude in a Special airplane. We are asking for your help in covering these cost. Please consider making a donation to make our dream a reality.
