On May 1st 2020, Sunset Park lost a legend.
After a heart-wrenching 6 weeks intubated in a medically induced coma at NYU Lutheran Hospital, Roberto “Meg” Correa lost the battle against COVID-19. Although the doctors prepared to lose him almost immediately, Meg was a fighter. And with hundreds of friends and strangers holding vigil until the very end, it’s clear that he created something worth fighting for.
Meg was so many things in life: a loving family man, a prolific rapper, a celebrated community activist, and a loyal friend. Universally adored and respected, Meg was – and will remain – a fixture in the Brooklyn community.
A man like Meg doesn’t come around often, and at only 43 years old, he was taken from us too soon. From holding annual fundraisers at his clothing store, The Booth, to supporting any and every community effort to give back, Meg’s loss won’t just be felt by his friends and family, but anyone who’s life he touched.
Always willing to help others but never willing to accept help in return, this GoFundMe is intended as an opportunity to pay respect to the legacy of the man we love so much. All money raised will be put into a support fund for his daughters, Megan (10) and Cheyana (13).
If this tragedy has taught us anything, it’s that the greater the love, the greater the loss. Selfless and kind to the end, Meg taught us what true friendship looks like – and now is our chance to give back.
To Meg, once a king amongst men, now a king amongst the gods.
