Megan's Pectus excavatum surgery
Donation protected
Hello, My name is Mae (Megan) and I have been in the long process of getting myself properly diagnosed/and getting treatment for it. I have pectus excavatum which is a birth defect causing the sternum to grow inward instead of out that worsens through puberty. Because it grows inward it has effected my heart and lungs by basically crushing them as I went through puberty and still continues to worsen now as an adult. I am now confirmed to have pectus excavatum and an obstruction of my lungs. I have further testing (stress test/CT's) to see how my heart/lungs function under stress. I will update this gofundme as I receive more information on my condition.
The treatment to fix my chest is called the Nuss procedure, and what they do is stick a curved metal bar(s) under my rib cage/sternum and they flip the bar(s) to force my chest out. The bar(s) will stay in for approximately 3 years.
The first few weeks of recovery are reportedly very painful and I fear I won't be able to return to work (Im not even sure my job would let me return till Im cleared medically). This fund is to cover those weeks I need to be healing.
I have been experiencing chest pain and decreased lung function since I was young but the doctors always said it was asthma/"you're tall/growing" and they ignored the bigger picture. I am in pain every day, I can't go up a flight of stairs without being winded, I can't sit up straight without my chest hurting, so many things I cant do because of pectus excavatum and I've grown so tired of feeling like I can't breathe, I'm so tired of the pain. I have finally found a doctor who is helping me get the treatment I need to be able to funtion as a normal 24yr old.
This fund will help me be able to cover my household/medical expenses through my recovery. I do not qualify for short term disability as this is a preexisting condition, which is why I've turned to gofundme. To every person who donates; no matter the amount, I thank you from the bottom of my crushed heart (haha).
Recent photo of what my chest looks like. When your sternum goes inward it causes your ribs to flare out

My ribs used to flare out evenly but now my right side is going in more which causes random sharp pain in my side and ex: I now can't sing along to the songs without the front bottom of my right ribs hurting
