Please Help Raise Funds for Megan’s Custody Battle
Megan is embroiled in an expensive custody battle to retain full custody of her twin daughters, Blue and Bell (Age 4). Blue and Bell’s father has fought for custody rights after being unable to cooperate or co-parent, and demonstrating years of unprovoked abusive behavior, which has included:
· Repeatedly threatening Megan’s life
· Verbally threatening to kidnap the children
· Stalking Megan and her friends
· Committing harassment and mental abuse for many years
· Repeatedly threatening to call the police on Megan for “kidnapping”
· Threatening to commit suicide if Megan did not allow parenting time, and explicitly blaming her for his unsuccessful attempts
· Fleeing the state to avoid legal/parental obligations
· Harassing Megan’s friends and family with similar abusive behavior
· Threatening to manipulate Blue and Bell against their Mother
The father’s behavior resulted in Domestic Abuse charges being filed and eventualy a legal Order For Protection (OFP) was granted and was in effect for 1 year. This OFP was then violated countless times, though, so it was amended to include Blue and Bell and extended an additional year. After some time, the harassment nearly stopped, but not entirely. At that point, the father was successfully charged with Felony Stalking.
Megan has lived in fear for several years now, for her children as well as for herself. She only wants Blue and Bell to be safe and surrounded by healthy and responsible individuals.
The father still insists that he never did anything wrong—he is unrepentant and often blames Megan for all of his actions—despite evidence which has led to legal action in support of Megan and her children.
Throughout all of this, Megan has done everything she can do to provide a safe and positive environment for the children. Without much financial help from others, she has managed to stay employed and maintain a safe and stable household for Blue and Bell, and has made countless sacrifices for their well-being. She is constantly seeking to improve their lives and give them the best possible childhood, and has enrolled them in the best day-cares and elementary school she could find – at no small cost to herself.
Recently, the father’s family threw thousands of dollars at the legal system, and succeeded in being granted visitation rights despite his abusive history. Within a week of this ruling, additional evidence was presented that the father has been non-compliant in his court-ordered chemical dependency program. Unfortunately, the legal system favors those with money. As a single mother, Megan is unable to keep up with the financial challenges the father’s family persists in placing on her, Blue, and Bell. Megan has paid thousands of dollars to her current lawyer out of her own pocket. Moving forward, she will need to continue paying retainer fees and litigation fees every time the father brings custody into question, or if something were to occur that would cause Megan to seek a modification to the custody agreement.
