Megan's Power Assist
Donation protected
I am raising money to assist with the purchase of a device for my manual wheelchair to help with wheeling. The SmartDrive Power Assist System attaches very easily to the back of my current wheelchair and is operated with a wristband remote.
The power assist will make a huge difference for me in terms of getting around in my community, especially for longer distances. It will greatly reduce the stress on my shoulders, elbows, and hand joints.
As some of you may be aware, I have recently had surgery for carpal tunnel on one hand and I am slated for surgery on the other hand within the next week. Having the power assist will help with the healing process, reduce the risk of repeat surgeries, and other joint complications in the future.
The SmartDrive system costs $9200. I have been approved for $1000 in funding through Ceridian Cares and I can access an additional $2500 through the Spina Bifida and Hydrocephalus Association of Southern Alberta. As I am on a low fixed-income it will be extremely challenging to save for the remaining $5700.
Any donation you are able to make will be greatly appreciated and will go a long ways to improving my quality of life.
