Megan's Kickin Cancer's A$$ Fund

On April 24, after a month of increasing pelvic pain, Megan was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of small-cell carcinoma ovarian cancer. She was admitted to Seidman Cancer Center at University Hospitals that day and three days later, had an extensive surgery including a complete hysterectomy, appendectomy, and the removal of tumors from her bladder, diaphragm, and small and large intestines. After three days in the ICU, she spent another week recuperating in her hospital room before being discharged.

Unfortunately, after just three days at home, Megan developed a serious infection and was re-admitted to the hospital and had a small surgery to remove her chemo port where the infection had settled. A week later the infection led to a leak in the bowel and her third surgery in three weeks took place on May 17. Following this surgery, Megan was placed on bowel rest and for twelve days, received her only nutrition via an IV tube.

The next hurdle Megan faced was the development of a blood clot on her lung . . . which led to an increase of blood thinners . . . which led to the formation of two large hematomas on her liver . . . which led to the collection of fluid around her lung . . . which led to intense pain.

The good news is that things are beginning to resolve and move in a more positive direction. Megan should start her chemo next week. She will have four to six rounds of three days each but because of the intense nature of the four-drug regimen, she will be admitted each time.

Despite all of the setbacks and the rugged road ahead, Megan continues to maintain a positive outlook and is full of her usual sass.  For that and for all the love and concern she has received, we are incredibly grateful! Thank you in advance for helping Megan out.

Sincerely,
The McGaw Family
