HELP KEEP MEGAN IN HER HOME!
Hello my name is Cara Whelan-Reinhold and I am fundraising for one of the dearest people in my life, Meg.
For those lucky enough to know Megan, you do not need to be told how big of a heart she has, and how generous she is with it. She shows up for people in big, meaningful ways, even if she just met you. Knowing Meg has made me a better person.
Meg has been fighting for her health and safety for 29 years, the first 18 of which included enduring chronic emotional, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of her family members & that has caused lasting damage.
Despite those circumstances, Megan made it through college and into the working world where she was able to finally provide a safe and stable environment for herself. She has been dealing with severe and debilitating gastrointestinal symptoms since 2013.
These incidents have gotten closer together over the years, but came to a climax when in May of this year, Megan was diagnosed with C. difficile.
C. diff is a severe bacterial infection of the colon.
When she was able to see an Infectious Diseases specialist in July, they concluded that the treatment of the c. diff infection was successful and her on-going symptoms were indicative of a separate issue.
Since then, she has dealt with disabling gastrointestinal symptoms on a daily basis while trying to work with doctors to find a diagnosis and eventual treatment. Working with a GI Specialist as well as her Primary Doctor - both at Denver Health - Megan has had abdominal ultrasounds, transvaginal ultrasounds, vascular ultrasounds, abdominal MRIs, an upper endoscopy, and various blood tests that have not yet yielded a diagnosis. This means that she is in pain constantly, without hope of resolution until her doctors are able to find the cause.
She has been in the ER multiple times while she waits for answers, on both August 3rd and November 17th. She does not have a current diagnosis which has impacted her ability to work, move about the world, and just generally live. This has caused a huge strain financially, emotionally, and physically.
Megan has been working for the past 5 years as a Technical Consultant as the expert of a project management software program named Planisware. Although she had a contract through December 2023, the company Megan was working with was acquired and her contract ended 2-months early in October 2023. This has left her with limited options and a great financial burden. She has been unable to pay rent since then and just received a summons for eviction due to her outstanding balance.
She must pay her outstanding balance of $4,270, or appear in court on December 27th.
She applied for Unemployment on October 27th and has been waiting through the period of “8-16 weeks after filing” for the Colorado Department of Labor and Employment to review her application since then.
She has an independent, short-term disability policy through Northwestern Mutual that she is using to make a claim to provide additional financial support.
Additionally, Denver county has an Emergency Rental Assistance program that may be able to help, but is not accepting new applications until January 2024.
Megan is committed to accessing all of the resources available to her and is trying to find some sense of stability despite losing her work and her health. We are hoping to raise enough money so Megan can find a bit of financial relief while the various resources Meg has applied to come to her.
Due to Megan’s history of abuse in her family background, she is unable to seek out financial, emotional, or physical assistance from her birth family.
The goal of $6,855 would cover Megan’s outstanding rent and prevent her from eviction, as well as provide the next month’s rent while she awaits Unemployment/Disability insurance and for rental assistance applications to open in January.
Unfortunately, she is facing eviction, and we need help to get her in a place financially where she can stay in her home, recuperate, and focus on getting healthy and strong again. Megan should be focusing on her health, not whether or not she has a roof over her head! If you are able, I hope you will consider donating whatever you can, and I thank you so very much in advance.
