Megan & Kyle’s Surgery and Recovery Fund

Hello, my name is Debbie Hale and I truly appreciate you taking a moment to read the story I’d like to share. For those of you that know me and my family, know that since 2016 we haven’t had the best of luck in our lives - well the struggles continue as my daughter Megan Wunrow has had troubles with her back over the last few years with needing physical therapy, medications, injections, along with several doctor visits. Nothing was working, but Megan continued to go in and explain what she was feeling and finally got a diagnosis. She had Two severely herniated discs, two mildly bulging discs, the start of arthritis in her spine, and degenerative disc disease. She has been on short-term disability and long-term disability without being able to work and the bills are starting to pile up.

Then in October her boyfriend Kyle Verhasselt passed out twice randomly while out in public, raising severe concern due to a past brain surgery from his childhood. That night they ended up in the Emergency Room with multiple tests and scans being done. After a night stay in the hospital, he was released to follow up with a Neurologist in Madison. On January 10th, 2024, he had to go in for his second brain surgery to remove a cavernous malformation to prevent any further brain bleeds from potentially happening. This resulted in a week stay in the ICU with a lumbar drain in his back to try to prevent infection from fluid buildup that happens with excess scar tissue. When released home he was unable to return to work for several weeks and Megan still out of work causing more bills to pile up.

Then in early February Megans pain became unbearable and the doctor decided surgery was the next step and scheduled it for February 20th, 2024. Kyle and Megan took out a small loan to keep their heads above water. On Valentines Day they were headed home from picking up dinner and were involved in a car accident getting T-boned and Kyles truck was totaled and another visit to the hospital for Megan. She ended up with a mild concussion and bruising.

On February 20th, 2024, the day before her 30th birthday, she goes in to have back surgery to remove her L5-S1 disc herniation and is unable to bend, twist, or lift anything. She ends up having to stay one night in the hospital to get her pain and nausea under control but is then released home with 3 follow up appointments scheduled. Kyle is now home taking care of Megan and is released back to work. After one week back the fluid in his head continues to build up causing severe discomfort. Kyle goes in for another CT scan and they find a complication from his recent surgery and now has to go in for a secondary brain surgery on March 13th, 2024, which will result in another hospital stay in Madison and a hotel stay for Megan to be there to support him.

Megan currently has a return-to-work date that isn't until May 20th, 2024, and they are now unsure of when Kyle will be able to return back to work. Megan and Kyle could use help with paying general utilities and living expenses. Not to mention all of the doctor bills that continue coming in. It is always hard to ask for help even when you desperately could use it. That is why I am trying to help them out by asking for help for them while they are struggling just to get by. If you could help my family with their struggles it would be greatly appreciated.

The donations will all go directly to their bank account so they can use immediately on their expenses associated with their medical situation and to help with this upcoming surgery and stay.

If you are unable to donate at this time, I just ask that you please share their story and pass this along to other people in the community.

Thank you!
