The next mad adventure! I am currently raising money to compete in the Gaucho Derby in March 2022. This is a multi-horse race covering 500km in 10 days, inPatagonia, Argentina. Any money raised above the entrance fee will be donated to For Rangers charity (https://www.forrangers.com/home)
This is not just a horse race but a test of my navigational skills (dodgy at the best of time), my physical endurance and ability to handle living out in the wilderness for 10 days with nothing but my horse, food and GPS.
Part of the challenge is being able to carry everything that you need on your horse; sleeping bag, tent and enough warm clothes to survive the cold nights in the mountains. The next challenge is my horse management ability. One needs to look after their horse so that it is able to pass the vet checks which are every 40km.
We will be tracked by satellites and a world class remote medical staff team keeping an eye on us riders. They will be able to respond to any emergencies and rescue us off the mountain if needs be.
I am currently fund raising enough money so that I will be able to enter the race. After a selection process, I have now got the nod in order to compete. So the fun begins with your support in raising the money to enter. I will be donating part of my monthly salary to the entrance fee as well as buying the necessary equipment. If, by some lucky chance, we can raise this money and more, I will be donating anything over the entrance fee ($15,000) to For Rangers charity.
As you all know, conservation is a huge part of my life. The people that allow our incredible Africa to survive are the Rangers that protect the wildlife. Without the rangers risking their lives every day against poachers, we would have very little to admire. And so, it is for this incredible cause that I would like to try survive 10 days of magical hell in the Patagonian Mountains, getting lost and freezing. But at least I will have a horse by side, so what more could one ask for.
Thank you so much for you support! LET'S DO THIS MADNESS
