Megan Harty and Carol Swanson

Megan has been diagnosed with Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia while living and teaching abroad in Colombia. She is currently in a high risk stage because her blood platelets are extremely low and she is at risk for internal bleeding. 

Megan has a team of 8 doctors that rotate. The treatment plan is a standard treatment plan for this type of Leukemia and it is the plan used all over the world with this diagnosis. She will have a very heavy first month because they need to kill off the cancer and start regenerating her blood  platelets as soon as possible. For this reason, she will not be able to leave the hospital for this first month. After this month, the plan will be 3 out patient chemo treatments followed by maintenance treatments for possibly up to 2 years. 

Megan's mother, Carol, is taking leave from work to fly immediately from Minnesota to Colombia to support her daughter's fight.

This GoFundMe page is for expenses related to Megan's diagnosis and recovery. Carol's colleagues created this page but Carol herself has sole access to the funds.
