Megan’s story in her own words:
“On the second Monday in November, I snuck up on Kathryn and accidentally took an elbow right in between the eyes. Initially, I was in pain and began having blurred vision, dizziness, and shortly thereafter nausea and vomiting. Being a nurse, I know better than to run to the ER for urgent care matters. After my symptoms progressed, we rushed to Lourdes to be checked out. During the workup for a concussion, they incidentally found a left parietal brain mass. I was admitted Monday night and they began running tests to rule out potential illnesses. After a five day stay, it was concluded that the mass was due to either an old trauma, an old infection, old stroke (possibly in utero-- I was a very large neonate (10lb, 14oz)), or maybe a tumor. The plan was to rescan me in 4-6 weeks to see if the mass changed...  During December, I recovered from the concussion and started to feel back to my baseline. I was rescanned on December 17 and December 18th, my world changed forever. I was told that I actually have a brain tumor (either a low grade astrocytoma or an oligodendroglioma) and needed to see my neurosurgeon. The past two weeks have been a blur of surgical consultations with multiple Doctors both in Lafayette and Houston. I found a neurosurgeon in Houston that works in collaboration with a neurosurgeon who specializes in seizures for these types of procedures. The plan is for brain mapping to be done to decide the best surgical approach to remove the tumor. Dr. Day discussed a needle biopsy versus an awake craniotomy depending on the results of the brain mapping.
My prayer is that the tumor be easily resected so this chapter can be closed. What I do know, is that the good Lord has a reason for everything and His ways are better than our own. I'm so thankful in an odd way to have been accidentally elbowed or we likely would not have known about this tumor. I have the most incredible support system with Kat, my parents Brenda Deen & Curtis Deen, family, and friends that have truly stepped up in a difficult time to be present for me. I can't thank each of you enough for the phone calls, texts, flowers, and support throughout this crazy journey.  I'm asking for prayers for strength, wisdom, and peace during this marathon.”

Megan is an amazing friend of mine and an even better nurse. As Megan starts to under go testing and possible surgeries, I thought it would be nice to help ease her mind of the obviously expensive, but needed, medical care in Lafayette and Houston.  Any little bit can help Megan as she goes through this journey. Thank you and God Bless you all!
