School improvements: Meg Academy

Donation protected

Meg Deamer Academy, near Eldorat Kenya is continuing to serve over 90 the poorest children in the area.  Kenyan School Government Inspectors  visited the school, were satisfied with the academic achievements fo the children and made the  following recommendations for the improvement of the school's infrastructure:

"The Kitchen should be improved and the floor cemented, pay annual county fee of ksh 13,000/=(~US$130), have a staff room for teachers, provide relevant textbooks, provide enough chairs and desks for students, connect electricity- (this we have done when we paid ksh 15,000/=(~US$140). What is left is to do electric wiring, put in socket and bulbs). That each class should have a book shelf. On the games facilities, they recommend: swing for lower classes, slides, used car tires, and ball games.

We currently have seven teachers and 91 students.

There is also need to have to more classrooms for standard 7 and 8."

We have been communitacting with Barnabas, (not always easily) and have recived the following:

"The rough estimates of some of the items are as in this table
Item                      Number        cost $US           Total  $US
Electrical outlet:      24      $      3.0                 $      72.00
 Shelving units:             6     $    29.00             $   174.00
 Chairs:                          42     $    24.00             $ 1,008.00
 Desks:                           52     $    25.00             $ 1,300.00
 Children’s swing:       1      $ 250.00             $     250.00
 Class room:                   2     $3,500.00           $ 7,000.00
If we can manage one classroom this year then we can have another one next year. We should do what we can, we understand finances can be very challenging every where.

Thank you once more dear friends."

Our Goals it to try to raise a total of $10,000.00 to complete all the above.

The school was founded  with a little financial help from the Deamer family, and when Meg passed away shortly thereafter, Barnabas and Florence named the school in her honor, and as a role model for the children.   Funds will be forwarded to the school in lots of $2,500 as they are raised to help them put into place the Kenyan Government inspectors recommendtions.
