Mega Fundraiser to Help IDPs in Afghanistan

As Taliban made inroads into multiple districts and even some large cities in the recent weeks, hundreds of thousands of residents, facing a variety of issues fled their areas and headed towards cities with relative peace, mainly Kabul.

Since the beginning of the troop withdrawal in May, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs [OCHA] said there are at least 244,000 internally displaced people [IDPs] in Afghanistan—a 300% increase in comparison with the same period last year, but that number is much higher in real life and is expected to result in a humanitarian catastrophe, amid an array of problems Afghans are facing such as another wave of Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing war, and famine.

The current government of Afghanistan cannot handle the looming disaster as it’s either unable to address the issue of this magnitude coupled with active military clashes in dozens of provinces simultaneously. The international community has also decreased it’s efforts amid warnings spearheaded by the United States as it fears for the safety of their diplomats and aid workers alike. The current international development infrastructure may not be able to quickly address the issue and provide basic necessities such as shelter, food and safety for the IDPs.

The urgent need the IDPs range from tents to food, blankets, drinking water and hygiene items among other pressing needs.

We, the Afghan diaspora call on our fellow Afghans, to help fill the tragic gap created by the speed and magnitude of this humanitarian disaster in the making, by providing financial support to a thousands of volunteers organizations and individuals who can quickly improvise and provide basic needs before more conventional international aid mechanism is established.

The funds collected here, will be deposited in the accounts of the US-based non-profit, HBT ( Help Build Tomorrow) in smaller increments, and HBT will transfer those funds to local volunteers coordinated by a fundraiser team selected from the community in diaspora around the world, who will supervise the dispersement in full transparency and report back to the community.

Please donate with this campaign and share with your friends and family for maximum exposure and effectiveness. Every dollar counts and can save lives so, please help us make this a successful community campaign.

Help Build Tomorrow (HBT) is a Non-Government and Non-Profit Organization established by a group of individuals aiming to create a more hopeful tomorrow. HBT’s core mission is to educate poverty-stricken children in Afghanistan by supporting both the children and their families.
