Megan's Guatemala Mission Trip

Hey there!

My name is Megan Oliver.  I am a member at The Church at Brook Hills in Birmingham, AL and thoroughly enjoy serving there. I currently work & love on the Veterans at the VA Medical Center downtown. And am Mother to 2 AMAZING little boys, whose souls I pray for daily.

About 3 1/2 years ago the landscape of my life drastically changed.  I went through a very painful divorce and afterwards realized my walk with God had essentially been in idle..it was barren and fruitless..and essentially of my own fault.  But God never forsook me, and over the next several years he and I have grown closer and closer.  Two years ago I was baptized and took the step to not just be a believer (something I had been since I was 8) in Christ Jesus, but to change my life and become a disciple.  To not just 'talk the talk', but to also very much 'walk the walk'.  Over the last year God has done some extraordinary things.  Answered numerous prayers and has always provided.  He doesn't always answer the way I would have planned or even in the timely manner I would like, lol.  But his will is good and I trust it more than ever.  Part of my walk with him has revealed a strong desire in my heart to love and comfort those who feel helpless or forgotten.  Those who feel they will never be good enough or could ever be unconditionally loved.  I want them to know about the love and hope that I get to walk with everyday, and that it is available to everyone and can NEVER be taken away.
That is why I am raising money for my FIRST International Mission Trip. I will be serving in Guatemala from May 30th-June 6th. (only a few weeks from now!!) While there, I will be traveling with a group from my church here in Birmingham (The Church at Brook Hills), another church group from Iowa (Cornerstone Church) and all of us guided by 1 Way Ministries (1wayministries.org).  Once there we will come alongside two missionaries already housed there as well as, serve Pastor Jorge Morales, and his church, Jerusalen Inglesia. Our time there will be spent using our energy and hearts to reach the impoverished, desparate and forgotten people groups that live in and around the Guatemala city dump.  (If you are not familiar with the conditions or any of Guatemala's history over the last 30 years I would strongly encourage you to watch the movie "Reparando" on Amazon Prime.  It illustrates the way many mayan people are struggling to find work, living off the dump out of necessity, and strongly desire a love and hope that can't be taken away.)
Our main task is to share the gospel while there.  To answer questions that they will have. To share our own stories and testimonies. To encourage, pray with, and listen to. But most importnantly, to be vessels of God's awesome word and greater will.  He is the one at work, not us!
I ask you to please prayerfully consider giving towards this mission trip.  If you feel led to give, then you bless me, the mission team and the Guatemalan people, but especially our Heavenly Father and his kingdom. You can rest assured that your money will go towards what will no doubt be a kingdom impacting experience for all involved! If you do not feel led to give monetarily then I'd graciously ask you to join me and others in praying for this trip, these people's hearts and for God's will to be done.
