UPDATE, JANUARY 23, 2025
Dear friends and loved ones,
It is with heavy hearts that we bring the news that Meg slipped away peacefully on the morning of Wednesday, January 22, at Alive Hospice with Paul and her devoted friend Martha at her side.
Meg was so uplifted by all of the support and love she has felt since the onset of her diagnosis, and there is no doubt that it extended her time here. She surprised everyone in October--including herself and her entire oncology/healthcare team--when she responded very well to a new treatment that she opted to try; of course, we all realized that if anyone could make such a turnaround, it would be Meg! That gift of an improved quality of life allowed her precious time with Henry as he took a semester off from school to be with her these last few months, and we are so grateful for that.
Any remaining funds after Meg's expenses are paid will go directly to Henry to assist with the expenses of his final year at Sarah Lawrence College.
Thank you all for loving Meg, and Paul and Henry, and may Meg's memory be a blessing to all of you.
From Paul:
On behalf of Henry and myself, thank you to the hundreds of friends, family, and all of Meg's many admirers who contributed to her Go Fund Me over the last three years, came to visit her in Nashville, and showed their spiritual support through cards, letters, texts, songs, food, hand-sewn clothing, art, and love.
We are in awe of how deeply this singular person impacted hundreds of people from every state and from every imaginable walk of life: from rock stars to rock climbers!
Close family and friends will celebrate Meg's life in the near future. But anyone wishing to celebrate Meg will find her on any long walk you take or any small moment of privacy you make for yourself to celebrate being alive and knowing life on Earth can produce such a person as Meg Giuffrida.
Thanks, PB
UPDATE, AUGUST 12, 2024
Hello, dear friends of Meg Giuffrida. We are re-launching this campaign to offset the expenses that are currently impacting Meg; since Meg’s initial breast cancer diagnosis in early June 2022, and subsequent surgeries and treatment, she has recently discovered that cancer has returned and metastasized.
Meg is grateful beyond words to you all for so generously exceeding the initial goal at the outset of her diagnosis. In the face of recent developments, we are coming to you again to ask for your assistance so that 100% of Meg’s energy can be focused on getting her body, mind, and spirit through the weeks ahead without the added stress and distraction of financial burden.
Thank you so much for reading this far and considering donating to this campaign. Any donated amount is sincerely and deeply appreciated and worthwhile. And if you would kindly consider sharing this campaign, it would be so helpful in getting the word out and reaching our goal.
JULY, 2022
Hi, my name is Wendy Walker Silverman, and on behalf of our dear friend Meg Giuffrida, her friends and I are launching this campaign to offset even a fraction of the expenses impacting Meg and her family. Since Meg’s initial breast cancer diagnosis and surgery in early June, it has been determined that several weeks of chemotherapy and major surgery are necessary. Not only will Meg and her family have the added expense of medical care, but their family will have a loss of income as Meg faces this challenge. We hope that with your help, 100% of Meg’s (and her family’s) energy can be focused on getting her body, mind, and spirit through this treatment without the added stress and distraction of a financial burden. Our initial goal is set at 15K, which will cover her immediate out-of-pocket medical costs and begin to compensate for lost wages on the days that Meg cannot work. Meg plans to continue working at Textile Fabrics as long as possible, but depending on the length of her course of treatment and how well she tolerates it, there could be a future need to raise that goal.
You might know Meg from her days as the owner and chef of The Red Wagon restaurant in East Nashville, through the wonderful music of Paul, or as Henry’s mom. As a new Nashvillian in the early 2000s, I would notice Meg at so many of the concerts and events I attended, and I can’t explain it, but every single time I saw her, I wished that she was my friend, and somehow, I felt that we would be friends. Meg is among the most brilliant, creatively talented, witty, curious, loyal, and generous humans you could ever meet. She and her family are our Nashville family, and we are not alone in that sentiment.
With your help, we can get Meg through this and healthy again so she can enjoy sewing, cooking, pilates—and all the things she enjoys doing—as quickly as possible and without the anxiety caused by the financial burden of a large medical debt. Thank you so much for reading this far and considering donating to this campaign. Any donated amount is sincerely and deeply appreciated and worthwhile. And if you would kindly consider sharing this campaign, it would be so helpful in getting the word out and reaching our goal.
