Meetum Startup Costs

Conor Brown, Louie Reed and Patrick DeVivo created Meetum, a social app for Amherst College in the 2016 spring semester.

Meetum is a social app that originally focused on catalyzing cultural change at Amherst College by providing students with a powerful platform to meet their fellow peers. The app was designed to foster a sense of community at the college, shaping the campus environment into one of inclusivity.
Within four weeks of launching, Meetum had 800+ users and 250+ events.
Students post and find events that are happening around campus (from casual parties and bar nights, to club and organization meetings, to performances, talks and workshops; any sort of event is accepted).
Goals
We're hoping to take Meetum to the next level by developing a "general purpose" version that would work for networks beyond Amherst's student body. We envision the app available at other schools, within alumni networks, at corporate offices, for local clubs and organizations and any other private network that might benefit. We'd like to create a platform on which people "get in to get out," using social media to faciliate a real-world sense of community within the many networks (and types of networks) people naturally belong to.
How can you help?
We're launching this GoFundMe to raise a small amount of initial capital that would allow us to cover the costs of forming our company and acquire the necessary documents (NDAs, operating agreements, user terms and conditions, work for hire agreements, etc) that would allow us to get off the ground.
Awards
Meetum has won two entrepreneurship awards since our February launch.
- The Amherst College Entrepreneurial Concept Award
- 1st Place at the Grinspoon Entrepreneurship Awards.

Testimonials
Meetum has provided the Amherst campus community with a unique forum to include students from different social groups in campus activities, big or small, that they may have not known about from other social media outlets.
– Dori Atkins, Centerville, DE
Meetum is an app born out of a demonstrated need for engagement on this campus. It has coupled function and utility and ultimately created an app that brings unlikely people together and forges friendships across social barriers.
– Annie Apffel, Mountain View, CA
Meetum has been a great way of getting the word out to students about what's going on on campus in that same moment
– Lizzie Ahern, Corte Madera, CA
On a campus where inclusivity is heavily desired yet exclusivity is commonly felt, Meetum has finally created a forum in which individuals from all different social groups and backgrounds can come together with ease, ultimately connecting different students in ways they previously never thought were possible
– Ben Pollack, Farmington, CT
Meetum has allowed me to take Amherst College’s diversity and inclusiveness to a new level by letting me know everything that is going on around me in one easy-to- use platform. Absolutely love the app.
– Jerry McLellan, Woodbury, CT
I’ve always wondered what interesting initiatives students would come up with to combat some of the negative attributes of campus life such as isolation. Meetum has exceeded my expectations of what technology can do to bring Amherst students together by organically creating spaces and events!
– Sanyu Takirambudde, Johannsesburg, SA
Thank you very much for considering a donation!
