Wodan: A Canadian Military Hero in Need of Your Help

Meet Wodan, a retired Malinois who served with the Canadian Armed Forces. He retired in 2022 after an eight year career that included high risk deployments abroad where he put his life on the line to protect his handler and human teammates. Now he needs a helping paw - in more ways than one.

Like most Mals, Wodan has two settings: full on and recharging so they can get back to full on! Over the last year, Wodan’s been repeatedly injuring a toenail that’s been holding him back and required several trips to his favourite vet where imaging and physical exams didn’t reveal anything significant. Despite his frustration, Wodan continued to giv’er in park chasing his ball and one morning lost his problematic toenail… no big deal, right? A little rest and his owners assumed he’d be back at it in no time. Unfortunately, within a couple days it was clear that something was wrong when his toe ballooned in size… off to his fave vet…

While Wodan & his humans finally had a diagnosis, the tumour meant that his toe needed to be removed and, to ensure no cancer had spread from his toe, he also required a lymphadenectomy. A true working dog, Wodan’s continually failed to take his doctor’s advice on taking it easy, which has delayed his recovery a little bit. Even so, he’s on his way to a full sprint again :)
