Meet my Mom, Nancy. She Needs Our Help!

Donation protected
Hi there, my name is Chris, and I want to tell you about my Mom.

Nancy is amazing. She has spent years on the front lines fighting addiction by coaching and mentoring those paralyzed in substance abuse. She adopted the love of her life, a three-legged dog (appropriately named Lieutenant Dan!), because she knew he would need more attention and care than others. She has offered me countless hours of advice when I feel lost.

Nancy is kind.
She is generous.
She is hilarious.
She is also now recovering from a stroke, facing a long road to recovery ahead.

My Mom has given so much to so many people and would never dream of asking for help when she needs it the most because, in true "Mom" fashion, she would never want to feel like a burden to anyone. That is why I am here today.

On November 5, 2022, my mom was on the phone with my aunt and began to lose her ability to speak. She could not put sentences together and could not even call 911 by the time she realized what was happening to her. I can only imagine it was the scariest moment of her life. Her legs became weak, and her hands began to curl up. She later told me that in that moment, she was less afraid of actually passing away but terrified of leaving behind those she loves, having so much left to give and to do.

Well, with a heart full of gratitude, I can say neither of those two things happened. Over the last month, my mom has made tremendous progress thanks to a fantastic team of in-home care nurses, therapists, and social workers. As grateful as we are in the present, we are now considering a very different future than any of us expected.

My mom can no longer drive for the foreseeable future. She lives in a constant state of what she calls "brain fog" and sometimes has trouble communicating her thoughts. She will also need to walk with a cane and cannot put any significant weight on her left leg. These new limitations create difficulties in doing many things we take for granted.

Today I ask that you consider extending help to someone who has freely given hers my entire life. As in many unforeseen medical situations, hospital bills, long-term care, and other expenses pile up quickly and arrive in the mail every day. She will also need to remodel her bathroom to accommodate a walk-in shower because of the limited use of her left leg. Every dollar will help her focus less on the expenses created by this situation and use all her energy to focus on her recovery. Your support can help relieve the pressure created by medical bills she cannot afford and help provide her with a safe and functional shower to serve as a haven, not a hazard.
Thank you so much for even taking the time to read this testimony. It means the world to me, my mom, and the rest of our family to know we have people out there who will consider helping her during this genuinely challenging time.

With Appreciation,
Chris Kiley
