Meet Jade Field

Hi my name is Marcia and I am doing a fund raiser for Jade Field.

Meet Jade Arya Sonia Field.

Jade was born in the beautiful island of Barbados and just recently turned 6 years of age.

She arrived in Canada on October 11th with her parents, younger sister and grandparents for her cousin’s wedding. Her first plane ride, she was excited for the holiday, counting her sleeps until the big trip. She was geared up for the weather and ready to see a big city and dance the night away at the wedding. Did I mention she loves to dance? Her favourite song is Waka Waka and her favourite singer is Rihanna who is also from Barbados. The excitement was real!

A few days later Jade was not feeling well. She was very weak and fatigued and sleeping constantly, no appetite. This was not at all like the Jade we knew. This prompted her parents to take her to a clinic to get checked out. Thanks to an EMT who was at the clinic (an angel in disguise) he took one look at her and checked her sugar level. It was at 33! She was rushed to Etobicoke General and after some tests they contacted the Hospital for Sick Kids downtown Toronto where she sent to immediately. Jade was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes. She had diabetic ketoacidosis which means her sugar level was so high she could have gone into a coma. She was taken into the ICU and the Sick kids team took special care of her and after a few days she was feeling better. As a foreign patient the hospital bill sky rocketed to $24,248 CDN$

Kudos to the medical team at Sick kids , Dr Akinkugbe Olugbenga, Dr Daniel Jonathan Wasserman, Nurse Nic, Nurse Penny and Nurse Jennifer to name a few. We cannot thank them enough for saving Jade’s life and for being so very supportive during this scary ordeal.

Please join me in helping Jade and her parents reach our goal of $24,248 CDN$ which will be paid directly to Sick Kids. It doesnt have to be a large amount, anything you can afford will help to meet our goal.

Jade is now back in Barbados and adjusting to her new life. Difficult for a 6 year old but she is brave and she is a warrior and can do this!
