Meena Mahbob's Stage 4 Breast Cancer Support Fund

My brother and I recently found out my mom's cancer has returned and while we are currently awaiting more answers on what it is and what her long term treatment will be, we do know that it is stage four and has spread to her lungs, lymph nodes, bone and liver.

While this news is overwhelming and scary, especially given we have already lost our father 10 years ago in his fight with cancer, our whole family knows my mom has the strength and courage to fight this and live for a long time inshAllah. We want to make sure these next few years (and hopefully much, much longer) are as comfortable and stress-free as possible while she battles this and so we have decided to set up this go fund me to support her during her treatment. Money is the last thing she needs to worry about, particularly as she is navigating second opinions, out of network options, and large deductibles for the foreseeable future.

For those of you don't know my mom's story - in 2007, my mom found a lump in her breast and discovered she had Stage 1 breast cancer. She underwent surgery followed by intense chemotherapy and radiation for two years. In 2013, only 2 years following the loss of her husband, upon a routine check up scan it was discovered my mom's cancer recurred, this time Stage 2. Again, she underwent chemotherapy and this time opted for a double mastectomy to remove the cancer forever. After many years of follow up and hormonotherapy, in 2019 she was declared "cancer free" by her doctors.

Now, for the third time, she is fighting this fight. 

My mom has not lived an easy life - a refugee from a war torn country, she has cared for her sister who also battled metastatic cancer, her husband, and has raised my brother and I alone for the past ten years.

For anyone who knows my mom, they are astounded by her strength and compassion towards others and now we want to help return the favor. This money will allow her and our family to have some additional financial security. We want to help her get the best treatment and any extra measures that will help her stay comfortable.
