Meeka’s Journey

Hi. My name is Theresa and I’m here to raise funds to help with my dogs veterinary bills. Meeka is my 8 year old German shepherd. She is my heart and soul. At age 2, one Friday night I found her in a McDonald’s parking lot. Her owner was found and did not want to care for her anymore. From that day I knew it was fate we found each other and she was going to be my best friend. She loves the beach, hiking, and most of all swimming. Tennis balls are her favorite thing to chew on, and they go everywhere with her. I have done everything I can to give her the best life she could possibly live. In June of this year, I found out the worst news I could have ever been told. She has TCC (Transitional cell carcinoma), a fast growing tumor that was found in her urethra. This tumor can’t be removed due to the area it is in. This cancer can spread to her lungs and many other parts of her body also. The prognosis for TCC is not great, but I am working to find any way of helping her through this. This diagnosis was completely unexpected and heart wrenching. My decision is to treat this nasty disease with medications and chemo together. I am working with the best oncologist there is and making sure every one of her needs are met. With her being so early in this diagnosis and in good spirits still, this would be the best decision for her. The type of chemo she will go on is easy on most dogs systems and hopefully won’t make her feel worse. With out treatment her quality of life is only 3-4 months. With treatment and hope her quality of life can increase to 9-12 months. I’ve heard stories of dogs living longer than a year. Unfortunately there is only a small percentage of dogs that go into remission. I am asking for all the help with finances I can get, just to give me more time with my best friend. Helping me get through the heavy finances of chemo and veterinary bills will take a lot of weight and stress off of my shoulders. I can focus on what I need to do to give her the best summer and months she has left. Please help both her and I through this hard journey. It won’t be an easy one. Thank you for your contributions.
