Michael & Marilena Velicu opened their restaurant 16 years ago with the simple mission of providing their home, the Village of Ridgewood, with a warm and unique atmosphere where they could share their passion for authentic Mediterranean cuisine and hospitality.
The Velicus traveled all throughout the Mediterranean region collecting not only recipes and culinary techniques but also priceless lamps, decore, paintings and accent pieces that made their restaurant truly one of a kind. Not even a single candle holder survived the demolition to eventually become a momento.
While overwhelmed by their own grief of watching their restaurant being demolished, they were soon overwhelmed by an outpouring of love and support from the local community and their loyal patrons.
Amidst tragedy, loss, and devastation, this filled Michael & Marilena with resolve and determination. The love and support they received made it clear they must rebuild and reopen Mediterraneo as soon as possible so they may continue their lifelong passion of sharing the cuisine, tastes and joy of the Mediterranean region with their Village of Ridgewood.
Any help, kindness, and support that you can provide will only serve to accelerate that process and help this small part of their Village return to normal.
