Medina’s Transplant Recovery
Donation protected
In 2008 my dads veins gave out in his stomach and the doctors told us that his liver was sick, I remember being his daughter at 10 years old a lot of it was confusing. As the years went by and I saw my father getting skinnier and weaker I began to comprehend that his sickness was taking a toll on his body, he had lost over 70lbs in a matter of a couple months. Since 2008, EVERY year he has had to get a treatment to control bleeding of his esophagus, and through out the years his illness has gotten worse until they noticed that he had a tumor of cancer in his liver. Then, he was submitted to a treatment of radiation. They tried to keep doing radiation but it was not working, the doctors then decided the best choice was to get a liver transplant. We have waited about a year for this transplant which was very difficult seeing it take toll on his body. He experienced Hepatic encephalopathy, where he was confused and did not know what was going on or even what day it was. He has been in and out of the hospital about every week. It has been draining for both him and the family through this whole experience and we would be grateful to receive any kind of help. As of March 4, 2020 Our father Tony received a liver transplant and is now in the ICU trying to make a full recovery. He is undergoing physical therapy as his body is very exhausted from the long 12 hour surgery. He will also need a lifetime supply of medicine which will be very expensive. Prior to his transplant he had to leave his job because he was to weak to continue his day to day routine, post surgery he needs to be taken care of for the next 3 months and our mother has stepped up and will be leaving work for 3 months to be by his side checking on him. As you may expect having both parents out of work for the next few months will take a toll financially. We would love and be extremely grateful to any donation small or big to support his treatments, medications, and living expenses for the family during this very difficult time.
