Hello, my name is Maggie, I'm 15 and I'm raising funds for Alder Hey/ MediCinema. In March of 2025, I was in school and noticed something was really off. So I went to the bathroom, not thinking much of it, and then collapsed. I went straight to hospital expecting to be kept on obs for a couple hours and then go home. But I couldn't feel my legs, and I was having jerky movemts all the time. So they kept me in for 8 days, ran tests and couldn't not figure out what was wrong, why I was paralyzed. We had to get the news this could be lifelong , which was devastating for me and my family. However I stayed positive throughout and during my stay, I got to go to the hospital cinema! I watched Matilda on world book day and I forgot that I was in hospital. All my worries washed away for a whole 3 hours. The staff were amazing, playing along with whatever movie was on, it was just incredible. Now I know I wasn't in for the longest time, however I know people like me who don't have this privilege and would like to. So this is what I'm here to do. To let other kids, teenagers and even adults who are stuck in hospital get to experience what I did. I would like to raise money to get hospitals cinemas across the country, to get away the feeling of being trapped for so long. Any extra money will be donated to Alder Hey Childrens Hospital, as I couldn't have asked for better staff during my stay. Thank you! I have already collected over £120 through a litter pick, and will continue to find ways to raise money. (For anyone wondering what the diagnosis was, I was diagnosed with FND (Functional Neurological Disorder) and thanks to all the staff at Alder Hey, the OTs the physio and others, I am now able to walk again ❤️
