At age 20, Muhammad Ali shook up the world and made a name for himself—by FIGHTING and then penning some of the greatest quotes to tell of his struggle. Twenty year old Daryus Brezial also has a great story to tell, only his fight is much different. Last year, he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Since then Daryus has been literally fighting for his life.
Rounds of chemo have been rough, and the side effects have been brutal. His most recent scan showed little progress and the cancerous masses are still persistent. In addition to the chemotherapy, Daryus is also taking supportive drugs to help lessen the severity of the side effects. He still has a very long road ahead of him and this fight is a tough one.
His fiancé, Justina, expends all of her time caring for him, as oftentimes his immune system is too weak to allow him to even lift his body up. The couple have a beautiful one year old baby girl, Zaniaya, who even tries to feed Daryus when he can’t feed himself. Unfortunately, his mother, Felicia (Carter) Smith, who resides out of town, exhausted her leave days from work and is no longer able to be present to physically support her son. With continuous treatment and Daryus’ inability to work, the bills are starting to pile up; medications, hospital bills and living expenses. Now they’re all fighting just to maintain a place to live. Daryus is such a fun person, and his smile is infectious. Despite his illness, he is still vibrant and full of life and is refusing to throw in the towel.
