Medication Costs & Brain Surgery to Remove Tumor

Donation protected
Hi there, Kel Murphy here, and I'm seeking to raise funds for a friend and high school classmate, Bret DeVooght. He has a brain tumor causing various issues, with the biggest one currently being multiple seizures. Bret does not have family to rely on for support. We are working on getting him set up on Medi-Cal, which will cover most things like surgery, but there are some gaps that need to be covered for medication prior to being scheduled for surgery and being set up with Medi-Cal as well as costs for after surgery care.

He's currently at a hospital being treated again for seizures and hoping new procedures and medications will finally allow him to work his way back to good health.

Why am I helping? I now know how much he's gone through, and the amazing part about him is his ability to take what life has given him and press forward.

Link to YouTube removed due to demand by owner. Reason: "The video explains when Bret was homeless and has nothing to do with anything associated with his health issues. It seems rather misleading to include it in your fundraiser."

The video was a direct testament to Bret's financial struggles, hence the need for this GoFundMe. It recounted his story of becoming homeless starting on December 20, 2011, due to economic struggles, job loss, and personal hardships. He details the challenges of homelessness, including limited shelter options, minimal resources, and reliance on transitional housing like Fresco, which has strict criteria. Bret has no immediate family support due to deaths, addiction, and estrangement.

He emphasizes his attempts to improve his situation, including applying for jobs, food stamps, and general assistance. Bret has reached out to the Salvation Army, churches, and friends for help but has mostly received prayers and moral support. He avoids substances due to a traumatic upbringing around addiction and abuse. His daily survival is marked by finding couches to sleep on or walking the streets at night. Despite overwhelming obstacles, Bret holds onto hope that tomorrow might bring better opportunities.

Thank you for taking a look. I'm happy to give any and all future updates to anyone who is interested.
