On June 16, 2022, our mother, Sherri, suffered a massive stroke around 2:30 am. It was later determined that she had an ischemic stroke. With the size of the blood clot and the unknown stroke time, the doctors could not treat or operate on it. Instead, they were forced to perform an emergency craniotomy due to the swelling of her brain. The stroke affected about 80% of the right side of her brain, therefore, causing the left side of her body to be really weak or even unresponsive. After three long weeks in the hospital, she was transferred to a specialty neuro-rehabilitation center in New Orleans, where we saw the most improvement from her by far. She has regained her memory, speech, range of movement and strength throughout this time. Every day she works hard in therapy and is relearning how to walk and do daily living tasks such as standing, putting on clothes, and grabbing items. While she has made such tremendous progress, she still has a very long road ahead of her. She will be discharged home soon and will need to continue physical therapy. She will also need 24/7 care at home, and with insurance not covering this part of her recovery, we are asking for donations to help cover the costs of her care. The amount requested will cover the price to pay for an hourly caretaker, equipment, and bills for Sherri's remaining recovery. Any donations left over will be donated to a good cause chosen by Sherri and our father, Charles Howard. We also want to take this opportunity to thank every single person that reached out, visited and kept us in your prayers. The support we have already received from everyone has been nothing short of a blessing. We ask that you continue to keep us in your prayers. Thank you!
