Medical & Vet Assistance for Showboy

Donation protected

On June 1st, 3 loose dogs attacked my registered miniature leopard appaloosa stallion, Show Boy. I bought him at 4 months old and he turned 20 years in May. The pack of dogs left my farm covered in my horses blood and exhausted from how long the attack went on. The dogs tore Show Boy all over his rear, stomach, neck and legs. If I hadn't got there when I did he would have lost his life because he was starting to give up from the attack. I called for an emergency vet visit and the vet spent two and a half hours here working on him and spent many more visits to the farm. Show Boy is very sick and has lost a scary amount of weight and has since developed a mild case of Tetanus, Colitis, severe diarrhea and numerous infections with an ongoing fever.

On June 22nd Show Boy spiked another high fever, there wasn't anything more I could do so I got a referral to take him to Woodside equine Hospital in Ashland, Virginia. My hero's Robin and Lon came to Show Boy's rescue and he was transported in the back of an air conditioned SUV. We got there sometime before midnight and they went to work on him right away. He was almost in kidney failure and so much more. I got an update from the hospital this morning and he had held his own last night. His kidneys are moving in the right direction. They put a nasal gastric tube in him for nutrition and are transpotting him healthy bacteria. He's on pain meds, ate a little grain, on IV fluids. His liver values this morning are moving slow but they're going in the right direction. His triglycerides were higher than the machine could even register. He's on a medicine for his fever. He's got a GI infection. All the antibiotics and medicines he was on killed the good bacteria. They're working hard on trying to save his life. He got a little mad when they were tubing him again this morning. He still has some fight in him.

The owner of the 3 dogs paid the original $700 vet bill a few days after the attack but they also seem to struggle with income and may not be to continue to support the restitution. Since the first vet bill I have accumulated medical bills for Show Boy totaling over $5,500 and the total continues to grow as his health waivers and am unsure how long his equine Hospitalstay will last.

I am asking for community support to help with the vet bills, medication and equine hospital stay/treatment. If donations received, exceeds the total amount of bills for Show Boy, the excess will be donated to St. Mary's County Animal & Adoption Resource Center.
