Mamita (81 yo) (as we called my grandma, Maria) is a symbol of resistance, unconditional love and careness. She has touched many lives by helping families and individuals that she barely met. In the family, she has taken care of each of us even though if she didnt receive nothing in return. She has been a tender mother figure for ones in needed. Whenever you were needing a place of warm food or shelter, she will magically appear one for you, even if you were not family or friend. She has even hosted some travellers in her house and treated them as family because her saying is "never refuse some help to anyone".

At the moment, Mamita is in poor health. She has a tumor in her kidney that could not be operated on because she also was bad on her heart. Today, 6 months after the cancer was discovered, the doctors have told us that the tumor has metastasized to her lung. We do not know how much time she has left to live but we would like to help her to mitigate the suffering (mostly physical pain) and take her to a private medical center to get some exams to know how much the cancer has spread. And those treatments are very expensive in Peru.

Due to these circumstances, we are raising funds to cover expenses due to illness: taxis to the hospital; alternative treatments to reduce pain; and future burial. In Peru, the public health system is overwhelmed and there are no beds to hospitalize her and medical tests take a long time to be carried out. That is why, as a family, we have decided to get tests and see a possible treatment for her cancer privately. Unfortunately, we do not have the resources to do so. Most of Mamita's children and grandchildren live day to day and do not have the budget for extra expenses.
