Medical Treatment for Damon and Autumn
This morning Wicomico County Animal Control received a call from a Good Samaritan about two stray dogs in terrible condition. These two dogs which we have named Damon and Autumn need immediate medical attention.
Both dogs are high heartworm + and emaciated. Autumn is currently under our care and has several masses that are likely cancerous. We will need to have them removed and biopsied. Damon, the grey male pup is in much more serious condition. Damon was taken to an outside veterinarian because he required more care than we are currently equipped to give him in our facility. He is so anemic that he falls over and has extreme difficulty walking. His blood test also showed that he has liver issues and he is in need of a blood transfusion.
These two look like they have been struggling on their own for months, scrounging for food and trying to stay alive. We can only assume that like so many of the animals that come through our doors, they were dumped by their owner. Neglected. Unwanted. Discarded.
Autumn and Damon are about 5 year old pitbull mixes. They will be up for adoption when they are medically well. They will have a long road to a healthy recovery. We will not accept any applications until they are available on our website.
As many of you have likely already seen or read, we are out of space and have been struggling for awhile. We ask you to please donate what you can, even if it's just a couple dollars, to go toward Damon and Autumn's treatment. No amount is too small and all help is appreciated. Please share this campaign so we can generate more exposure and finally show these dogs that people care.
