Ann Boyd arrived in Porto, Portugal in June 2024 with a wish to enjoy spending the rest of her life here for as long as possible. She absolutely enjoyed every minute she was here and was so excited about the future. Ann was in the process of moving into a new apartment to be closer to her friends when she began having stomach problems. After seeing a couple of doctors, she was finally given a CT scan where they found a blockage in her intestines. She was immediately checked into the hospital and surgery was performed to remove the blockage several days later. Though the surgery was successful, her dreams suddenly faded, the CT scan and surgery confirmed she had Stage 4 Colon Cancer in September 2025 that had metastasized to not only her intestines but to her liver as well. She was able to go home from the hospital for a short time, but she became too weak to take care of herself and had to return to the hospital in October 2025 where she has been ever since.
It has been a rough road for Ann. She held on to the hope that she would be able to go into remission and return to her home here in Porto to get on with her life, but her body is just not able to do what she wants. As a result, Ann has decided to return to Seattle, Washington to spend her remaining days with her family and friends there.
Ann does not have travel insurance that would pay for a medical flight back home as she has her two-year residency here in Portugal. We are looking at all options to get her there in the most cost-efficient way though it will still be expensive for her to do so no matter which direction we go.
It is heartbreaking to see her in this situation and any assistance that you or someone you know might be able to provide would be so incredibly appreciated.
With gratitude,
Friends and Family of Ann Boyd
