I am honored to have been selected for a first-of-its-kind medical tattoo mission alongside Operation Smile Egypt in Cairo this July. Children born with cleft lips in underserved communities often go years—sometimes their entire childhoods—without access to reconstructive care. The scar tissue left behind affects how they eat, speak, smile, and how the world sees them. Medical tattooing can help restore the appearance of the lip, reduce the visibility of scar tissue, and give these children back something they never had: a chance to just look like everyone else.
This mission is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for me to give back meaningful and life-changing services that I'm trained in, working directly on pediatric patients using advanced scar camouflage and lip tattooing techniques. Only 4-6 artists worldwide were selected for the inaugural Give Back Immersion Egypt program, which combines PMU artist education with real mission-based clinical volunteering. Part of our mission is education—helping train local dental students and practitioners in PMU technique so this work can continue long after we leave. I will also be bringing and donating supplies for the medical professionals so they have access to the tools they need.
Donations will help cover the cost of travel, airfare, lodging, food, travel and professional insurance, paramedical tattoo supplies, and more. These resources are essential for me to provide meaningful and life-changing services to children in Cairo, and to help train local practitioners so this work can continue long after the mission ends. I will also bring home my honed skills to serve others in my own community.
