Medical Support for Rural Hospital in Tanzania

Donation protected
Hello, my name is Devrim Kara, and I’m a medical student from Austria with a deep passion for global health and sustainable community support. Currently, I’m studying at the Medical University of Graz and working as a research assistant in the Department of Cardiology.

Through my education and experiences, I’ve developed a strong commitment to making a difference in underserved communities. Beyond my studies, I actively seek opportunities to contribute to meaningful projects that improve healthcare access and quality, particularly in regions with limited resources.

This passion has inspired me to embark on a project to support a small rural hospital that serves a vast area of over 100 kilometers. My goal is to combine my medical knowledge, organizational skills, and extensive network to bring tangible improvements to the hospital and its community. In September 2025, I will personally travel to this hospital in Tanzania to volunteer on-site, applying my medical skills and assisting with much-needed infrastructure improvements.

To make a lasting impact, I aim to raise funds to import essential medical equipment from Austria and Europe to this hospital, ensuring better healthcare for the local community.

Your generous support will help ensure better healthcare for this community. Every contribution, no matter the size, has the potential to make a life-changing difference.

Take intensive care pulse oximeters for newborns, for example – a vital device that can mean the difference between life and death, yet there’s a heartbreaking shortage. Each one costs around €250, a small price to safeguard a precious life, but still out of reach for many in this region. With this campaign, we can ensure that even the tiniest patients receive the care they deserve, giving them a stronger start in life and their families the gift of hope.

In the Ruvuma region, one of the poorest areas in the world, it was historically impossible to provide medical care for emergency patients from remote villages. People living up to 100 km away could not reach the hospital, and this lack of mobility often turned easily treatable illnesses into fatal outcomes. Thanks to generous donations, however, an ambulance (the Land Cruiser, shown in the title image above) was acquired in 2013. Since then, countless patients have gained access to the critical medical care they need. This success story shows just how much we can achieve together.

Dr. James Orbinski, the former Médecins Sans Frontières/Doctors Without Borders (MSF) International President, profoundly stated in his 1999 Nobel Peace Prize speech in Oslo: "We are not sure that words can always save lives, but we do know that silence can certainly kill."

This powerful reminder resonates deeply with our mission. We choose not to look away but to act – to make a tangible difference in the lives of those who need it most. Together, we can challenge indifference and bring hope where it is desperately needed.

Thank you for joining us in this mission!
