Medical Support for Kimbra

Donation protected
Let’s come together to give back to someone who is constantly giving so much of herself to others.

Everyone who knows Kimbra knows what an amazing mother, friend, and nurse she is.  She is one of the bravest and strongest women I know. She always puts a smile on her face and pushes through, but she needs our help.

Over the past couple of years, she’s been dealing with some major medical issues and they have only gotten worse as of late. This single mother of three has been unable to work for several weeks due to debilitating illness. On top of all of that, her oldest son, Keagan, has also been in and out of the hospital the past few weeks. Please help in any way you can. No amount is too small— $5 can help!

Kimbra’s Story:

“I’m a brittle type 1 diabetic and have had major complications as a result of the disease. It all started to drastically go down hill over a year and a half ago...I was put in ICU for food poisoning for 3 days. Two weeks later, I was back in the ICU for the same issues, when the doctors discovered that I had a food bezoar (a mass of food in the stomach), which is a sign of Gastroparesis. Gastroparesis is a disease you can get as a complication of Type 1 Diabetes where the stomach is basically paralyzed. As time went on, I kept getting worse- not able to eat without getting super sick with nausea and vomiting. Multiple hospital ICU stays for Diabetic Ketoidacidosis and dehydration due to my brittle type 1 diabetes and compounded by my Gastroparesis.

I have been seen by countless doctors and specialists all over Texas and have been as far as the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota (last December) to try to find more answers to why I’m getting sicker. I’ve accumulated tens of thousands of dollars in medical bills along the way. Since December, my blood sugars have become almost impossible to control due to the GI neuropathy the Gastroparesis and now my small intestine has stopped functioning. I am no longer able to absorb the proper nutrients I need to stay fully nourished.

I will travel to the University of Nebraska in July to meet with a team of highly trained physicians who work with motility disorders and transplants of the small intestines. I need a small intestine transplant. They will also determine if I am a candidate for a pancreatic transplant.

As a single mom of 3, I need to be well to take care of and be here for my babies. I love my job as a nurse, but I have missed lots of work due to these debilitating illnesses. With all of the work I’ve had to miss, plus my medical expenses (ranging from $500-$700 every month on top of the debt I’ve accumulated), it has become hard to support my family and pay for my medical supplies and bills.”
