Fundraising for Medical Supplies, Lebanon by Amy Boyden

Lebanon is located in the Middle East. It is in between Syria and Israel. The two main religions in Lebanon are Islam and Christian. Lebanon is a beautiful country and they are very welcoming however, they have gone through immense hardships.

In Lebanon there are roughly 1.5 million Syrian refugees. Predominantly, it is Syrian refugees in Lebanon however, there are also refugees from Palestine, Iraq, Ethiopia, Indonesia, and the Philippines. In Lebanon approximately 2.3 million Lebanese are in need of humanitarian assistance. Lebanon hosts the highest number of refugees per capita in the world. 90% are Syrians, 73% are Palestinians, and over 50% of Lebanese households are in need of assistance

I, Amy Boyden, have been here since February 2023, and I am carrying out humanitarian aid assistance. I teach English classes, aid with art classes and help with outreach programs. For these outreach programs we distribute food parcels and medical supplies. Since being here I have become aware that we are not able to provide all medical supplies for the families we visit. Medicine is very expensive in Lebanon and not all families are able to cover the costs. This is why I am raising funds for medical supplies.

As it stands we are only able to buy medication for a family once, even if they require lifelong assistance. Any family that we visit on an outreach programme, and if they need any medication, we are only able to cover up $50.00 worth of medication. So far in 2023, 12 families have been distributed with necessary medical supplies; however, not all of them received what they needed.

The raised money will go towards covering medical costs that go over $50.00. For example, CT scans, extra medicines, physiotherapy, and medical supplies.
