My Husband, Bernardo Puno , 74 years old , A Filipino Citizen ,came to Canada to see the Prairies, the Mountains and the beautiful landscapes of Alberta . Most importantly to see his Daughter, Sister and Grandchildren’s .
It was the morning of November 17th , 2020 the family’s life was turned up side down,he was not answering our questions properly and he didn’t seem mentally healthy so , my Son -in - law Robin decided to take him to Emergency of Chinook Regional Hospital in Lethbridge , Alberta.
The next thing we know , he was diagnosed with severe Ischemic Stroke. The Stroke seriously damaged about 80% of his brain leaving him unable to speak , or move the right side of his body .
With my husband lack of health insurance my family is now facing a mountain of hospital bills with no way to pay them.
My Daughter Berna was recently laid -off because of the pandemic and we don’t know how are we going to cover the enormous cost. Since they can’t continue Medication, Therapy and Rehabilitation for my husband me and my family wishes now is to bring him back home to the Philippines.the estimated cost of his Medical Repatriation is around $60,000 to $80,000 . My Family and Relatives gathered al their savings and other resources but still not enough to cover the cost . So, this is the time we realized to reach out the public .My Husband is medically stabled now but still has a tube on his stomach and that’s the reason he can’t fly thru regular airlines.his permit to stay is until end of April so we are planning to bring him back home before his permit will expire.
in the Philippines , I have 4 childrens and our grandchildren’s to help me to take care of him which we don’t have here in Canada and he can enjoy the benefits of Philhealth .
Sincerely yours,
Melba Puno
