Medical Relief for the Family of Belinda Rodriguez
Donativo protegido
On January 17th, Belinda Rodriguez was on her way back home from the Philippines when she fell unconscious in a South Korean airport. She was rushed to the hospital and had to have emergency surgery. She had a severe stroke that was caused by an underlying heart condition. Since then, she has been through so much these last few weeks. She started out on a ventilator to now having a tracheostomy performed. She's had chest tubes to address her pneumonia issue. She had a g-tube placement. She's had a temporary pacemaker to help stabilize her heart which has also now been taken back out as of yesterday. She is currently stable but showing signs of bradycardia. She has been downgraded from the ICU to a general ward but is currently in a shared room.
As you can imagine, there has been emotional, spiritual, physical, and financial stress put on her family. Having to take off work, speaking with interpreters, traveling to South Korea, getting only 10-15 minutes of time with her, working on insurance coverage for such a unique situation and trying to organize medical transport are just a few areas they have been navigating as a family. Belinda was anticipating the birth of her 4th grandchild and was planning to fly to Alaska to be with Reese to assist with her journey into motherhood. Reese has a high risk pregnancy and is currently 38 weeks and could give birth at any time. Due to her risk factors and the advice of her physician, she is unable to travel to South Korea to be with her mother at this time.
We have received more insurance clarity in that they now know that her medical transportation cost from Korea back to the United States is unfortunately NOT covered. Her medical transport quotes have ranged from $50,000 all the way up to $300,000 USD. Her moving to the general ward is a little bittersweet in that her condition seems to be improving; however, since her medical care is no longer classified as an emergency (acute) and is now considered a chronic/long-term condition, her hospital bills from that point are no longer covered under her insurance. So all of her current and ongoing care is no longer covered and will be an additional expense. Her family desperately wants her back to the U.S. as soon as possible to continue care where everything would be 100% covered by her insurance and she could be surrounded and visited by all of her loved ones. Most unfortunately, Belinda is stuck in Korea indefinitely until the medical transport cost is fully funded, AND the hospital will not discharge her as a patient until her hospital bill is also paid in full. They, as a family, are liquidating personal assets as quickly as possible to help assist returning her home, but unfortunately it is all a process that takes time and even then, they are still coming up short.
Her family knows that Belinda Rodriguez is a strong woman and that we serve a mighty and miraculous God. They believe in the power of prayer. Their prayer is for the return of good health to their mother and the ability to get her transferred back home. They humbly ask for financial assistance during this incredibly difficult time. Please consider assisting in their financial burden. Any and all proceeds will go directly to her transport costs.
