Medical Recovery Support Fund for the Bohn Family

Hello, my name is Tiqvah and I'm fundraising support for my 10 month old niece as she heals from a life threatening illness.

Last week my niece caught what her parents thought was a cold. Her parents took her to Nanaimo hospital for treatment and she received a diagnosis of RSV, but for some reason her condition began to worsen and deteriorate over the few days they were in hospital.

Her condition was deteriorating so rapidly that she was emergency airlifted to BC Children's where she was given life saving treatment for what we now know is a very rare syndrome called atypical Hemolytic Uremic syndrome (only 645 ppl in the US have it and it has a 90% mortality rate in some cases).

This syndrome causes the immune system to attack itself and the body systems. In my nieces case, it attacked her kidneys. She needed to be intubated to help her breathe and given continues hemodialysis to filter her blood.

Currently the Drs are trying to find the right kind of dialysis treatment for her. Which means she may require surgery, and possibly a longer hospital stay. She will likely be in the hospital for 2-4 weeks, and from there (barring a miracle), she will require frequent ongoing medical care (every two weeks) for the rest of her life for immune system and kidney function support.

I feel a desire to ask our community to help ease the financial burden off of Kevin and Naomi at this time. They have 5 kids total - 2 with special needs, and now an infant who also requires extra medical care and support.

My goal is to raise enough money to cover a few weeks worth of lost wages, travelling expenses (they need to take a 2 hr ferry ride to and from the specialists in Vancouver), accommodation, food and gas costs, care for their other children, and any unforeseen medical expenses not covered by insurance.

I feel so much gratitude for our friends and family who have already given so generously in the form of prayers, words of encouragement and support! They have made such a huge impact for the better for little C, Naomi, Kevin and their other kids. Before this illness, my niece was walking (at 9 months), talking saying mama, dada, hi and cat! We are praying she returns to a full level of health!

Though things are uncertain right now, I know that lifting the financial burden off of their family will make the world of difference. Thank you for helping ease the burden and making the road to recovery that much smoother for my niece and her family! ️✨
