Medical Needs for Bethany

Hello, my name is Rachel, and I created this fundraiser for my dear sister, Bethany, who is 33 years of age.

The short story of Bethany’s illness is this:

She has a history of late diagnosed TOS (Thoracic Outlet Syndrome) which affected her arms and hands. Even after surgical correction with major surgeries remove 2 ribs, she was still left with CRPS (Chronic Regional Pain Syndrome). This is a permanent type of nerve damage which is extremely painful and debilitating. It is constant, and also flares chronically and often to what she has described as an 8 of 10 level pain. The only treatment for this is pain management, which had provided little to no relief, until finding a clinic in Florida that provides off label drug infusions that have finally provided weeks of significant relief at a time. We hope and pray that Bethany will actually be healed in her treatment plan of repeated week long visits of infusions and take home medicine.

She has, however, within the last few years developed POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome). This has become severe, and debilitating also. This is flared with simple daily activities like laying down, sitting or standing up, and taking showers for example.

Managing the physical daily living obviously is challenging enough for Bethany, not to mention the toll it takes on the mind and spirit. She has been blessed with a loving and supportive husband in every way possible. However, the medical expenses, travels, and other needs have added up to a point where something needs to happen to move forward.

She and her husband have been working on applying for disability for her, but the appeal process with a lawyer takes many months. They need help in the meantime.

I have created a budget for the fundraising goal of $5000 for what will be financially helpful for the next 6 months below:

-$1000 to pay off some traveling expenses.

-$500 for future gas and lodging

-$400 for take home meds that are not covered by insurance.

-$400 for a PEMF machine that is not covered by insurance.

-$2700 for an adjustable split bed and mattress to tilt up on Bethany’s side for proven symptom relief for POTS

Any potential over budget will be put toward hiring occasional house cleaning, as this is something that Bethany has very limited ability for while her husband is away for work.
