Medical Mission to Vietnam with Venture to Heal
Donation protected
In January of 2020 I will be traveling to Vietnam for almost three weeks as part of a medical mission. And the truth is, I’m terrified. I’ve never traveled internationally, I have a fear of flying that’s more profound than the effects of Ativan, and I’ll be leaving my family for longer than I would have ever imagined. But I’m going to go anyway!
Since the election in 2016, I’ve felt compelled to act as a global citizen — to show the world that love will always trump hate, and that compassion and understanding can literally save lives.
This mission is about offering medical aid in rural Vietnam in areas that do not otherwise have adequate care options. The people we will help have a wide range needs— they are pregnant women without prenatal care, children with basic oral health needs, those fighting common colds and those with life threatening illness.
I’ll be traveling with a team of people, each responsible for bringing a 50 pound bag of much needed supplies. I will have a more complete list in the coming days, but I know some of the most needed items are adult and prenatal vitamins, toothpaste, toothbrushes and over the counter medications like Tylenol, Ibuprofen, Pepcid etc.
On the last day of the medical mission, we will be hosting a Kids' Day for the local children. We will provide interactive education on hand and oral hygiene followed by games and arts & crafts to connect more fully with the kids. We will be giving out school supplies to each child at the end of the day; thus, we will need school supplies, backpacks, coloring books, crayons, paint, and arts & crafts kits. Again, I will have a more complete list of needs in the coming days.
This is not an inexpensive mission. I will spend $4,500 in total costs for transportation, lodging, security, translators, and necessary supplies and I’m asking for your support.
How you can help:
— A monetary donation to put towards required mission expenses
— A donation of medical supplies/medication from the provided wish list (wish list coming soon)
— A donation for Kids’ Day from the provided wish list (wish list coming soon)
I am so grateful for my family, friends and community in supporting this effort! I know it will be a life changing experience in more ways than one.
