Medical Mission: Haiti March 2024

Hi Everyone!
First of all thank you for checking out this link, I have provided further insight to my goals and role as a CCLS traveling to Haiti below.
My job consists of helping children understand their hospital experience here in the states, specifically at Children's National Hospital in DC. The role of a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) can look many different ways, but I like to explain my role as someone offering developmentally appropriate opportunities for play, education, and support to children and families during their hospitalization. These opportunities may range from engaging in medical play with a 5-year-old to promote understanding of an IV placement, to supporting families during traumatic events they may face including death of a child, or new diagnosis.
To further inform my practice as a CCLS, I have the opportunity to travel as a part of the medical team to Haiti. This work will look a lot different than the work I engage in state-side but will be based in similar principals. I am asking for support from you all as this trip takes place over the course of one week, on a volunteer basis. Dates have not been finalized but I will be flying out of Fort Lauderdale with the medical team to complete this experience in March 2024.
I will be staying in Northern Haiti. "Hospital Sacre Coeur (HSC), located in Milot (just south of Cap Haitien in Northern Haiti); a well-equipped and well-staffed referral center for most of the North. Run by Haitian MDs and RNs, and supported by Holy Name Medical Center in NJ, HSC is a >200 bed facility that accommodates ~6,500 outpatient visits, >7,000 ED visits, and >6,500 hospital admissions per year." With a growing need for support I could not be more excited to learn from the locals and medical team. Supporting children and families is a passion of mine that I could go on about for hours...I am grateful for any contributions and am happy to provide additional insight to those who have more questions!
