Hi, my name is Tracy and I am fundraising for my sister Shannon.
Shannon had a serious health scare on November 10, 2022, when she was airlifted to Roanoke, VA to Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital due to sepsis in her bloodstream. They kept her in a medically induced coma while the doctors fought the infection with strong antibiotics. She had to be intubated and had three debridement surgeries during the first two weeks to remove the dead flesh (known as gangrene). In addition to that, she had to have a colostomy bag surgery as well. Shannon remained in ICU for a couple more weeks.
Shannon was moved from ICU to a Physical Therapy room on December 12, 2022, to begin the long-road healing process. The nurses and doctors worked tirelessly with Shannon on intensive physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy and wound dressing changes. All of this work was to prepare her to get ready to be able to do the same things at home for herself.
Finally, Shannon was released on Thursday, December 29, 2022. We thank God she got through all of this and it was certainly a LONG 7 weeks 3 days.
This healing process is long from over though. The medical specialist explained to her that it could be a minimum of 12 weeks before she can truly see the wound closing up. Knowing all of this, Shannon and her family's finances have taken a huge strain. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
