Medical Internship to Jacmel, Haiti

Hello friends and family!
I am beyond excited to share with you that I have been selected to go to Haiti in September of 2018. I will be serving on a Global Health Perspectives internship through my school, Denver College of Nursing. This internship partners with the non-profit organization and orphanage called Love Takes Root. This organization was founded by orthopedic surgeon Dr. Rick Wilkerson following the earthquake in 2010 that devastated Haiti. His wonderful wife Barbara Wilkerson is a pediatric nurse practitioner and she will be with us throughout our internship. The internship will take place in Jacmel where we will be focusing on providing clinical care for the orphans as well as the surrounding community. We will have the opportunity to scrub into surgery, assist in surgical needs at the local hospital, administer vaccinations, while also providing the day to day care that these individuals need. We are also lucky enough to partner with the local Haitian college of nursing where I am sure we will further expand on our nursing knowledge and experiences. A huge part of our internship will also be education. We will work with the Haitian health care providers on teaching preventative healthcare practices in order to keep the families of Haiti healthy and safe.
I am extremely grateful for the chance to use my nursing skills on a global level to help a community that I am extremely passionate about. I have always wanted to work in pediatrics and I believe these experiences will help to make me a better nurse holistically. I would be honored if you would partner with me to raise the funds to help me get to Haiti to support the wonderful people of Jacmel as well as Love Takes Root!
My goal is to raise $3,200 in the next 60 days! This money will cover the flights to Haiti but more importantly it will provide the funds needed to donate medical supplies, equipment and program support for the Love Takes Root orphanage.
This internship is made possible by the donations, love and support received from loved ones. I will post my life-changing journey on Facebook throughout the internship so that I can keep you all posted on the amazing experiences I encounter. I am truly grateful for any donations big or small, as well as just your thoughts and prayers as I embark on this journey.
