Medical Internship to Haiti

Hello All!
I am very excited to share with you that I have been selected to join a global health internship in Haiti through the Denver College of Nursing! Global and community health is an area of nursing that I am extremely passionate about, and I hope to gain the skills necessary to become a competent and passionate nurse in the very near future.
Denver College of Nursing has teamed up with Love Takes Root Orphanage to send a group of four students to Haiti this coming September to provide much needed support to the community of Jacmel. Love Takes Root is a non-profit organization founded by Dr. Rick Wilkerson, orthopedic surgeon, that aims to improve the lives of children by providing shelter, food, education and healthcare. Our internship will focus on providing care for the orphans, in addition to the community of Jacmel as a whole. While in Haiti I will expand my nursing skill set by scrubbing into surgery, administering vaccinations, participating in clinic and community outreach and providing daily care for the pediatric population of Jacmel. Further, our team will pair up with the local healthcare providers and Haitian College of Nursing with the goal of educating the health care providers of Haiti about the importance of implementing preventative medicine to enable Haitian families to thrive independently long after our departure. I am so grateful for the opportunity to contribute my nursing skills on a global level and would be deeply honored if you would consider financially supporting my trip and the Love Takes Root organization.
My goal is to raise $3,200 in the next 80 days! All funds raised will go towards flights, housing and, most importantly, medical supplies, equipment and program support for the Love Takes Root orphanage.
