we have been home from hospital over a week now, it's great to be back in our rented apartment, our days are full and go quickly.
in the morning after breakfast, i bed bath les (apart from sundays & wednesdays we pay for carers to come in and shower les) we transport les from his medical bed to his zimmer frame and wheel him into the bathroom onto the shower chair, spin him around into the bath where the carer gives him a shower, them zimmer back to bed. we simply cannot afford to pay for them every day.
i give him his meds (he is on multiple meds, nebulizer, hefarin injections which i administer daily in his tummy) plus meds for anti seizures, heart tablets for disrhythm, blood pressure tablets, prostate enlargement/prostitus tablets, all his eye meds for glaucoma, his copd meds and more at several times of the day. plus iron tablets to control anemia.
i change his nappies regularly and i am up multiple times in the night emptying his pee bottle (as throughout the day also) or changing nappies again. les cannot walk at the moment, movement in his right side is very very limited. our friend helps us outside with les's wheelchair to get some fresh air. days are busy and sleep is very limited at night, but we are happy because we are together.
we are receiving NO help from the government. (waiting lists are long and limited) everything we have applied for so far has been declined. we are really really struggling, this is why we have no option but to return to the uk in the next few months. we have lived in tenerife for 25 years and it is another big change coming for us.
les has more appointments to attend at the hospital, checkups etc and at the moment he is not strong enough to fly, no way and he cannot walk himself, he cannot stand at the moment unaided.
i do les's physio at the moment, all the exercises i was shown to do with les. we are on the waiting list for rehab in the hospital but that can take a few weeks before physio will properly start again.
we really need all the help we can for us both until we can return to the uk, for les to recover and get better from his brain haemorrhage and brain surgery he had last september, he was in hospital for over 4 months and only released under my 24/7 care last thursday 9th january.
les is still paralyzed in the right side, arm and leg. les is improving and movement is coming very very slowly, his short term memory is very limited. i am les's full time carer.
